Sharing my Drawing Process

I'm sharing my drawing process here. I'm working on adding color to my "Once Upon a Dreamland Christmas" illustrations. This is the process I use. First, I sketch out a rough drawing, then I finalize it. I do this by turning it upside down to look at it! I know this sounds crazy, but I can see mistakes better that way. I also put the drawing on a light box and turn it back side up. The light shows through revealing the reverse image. It's amazing what insight this provide...s! When I'm happy with it, I put it on the light box again, put a clean sheet on top and trace it with permanent ink. I use Indian Ink for this. This way I can scan the drawing into my computer and "print" the drawing off multiple times, reserving my ink drawing for my files. Then I can "practice and perfect" the color for the picture multiple times. I'm really enjoying putting color to these humorous illustrations. Can't show you a colorized one now. I'm in NC without a printer/scanner. But here's one of the line drawings. The Christmas book will star Patches, the character from the first book. He's at his antics again. This time there's a mystery involved with a bear ornament, and there are also some troublesome cats! There's also a nativity scene in the book with angel ornaments, mice, and toy figures, and fish!
