Have you decided to home-school? Are you having second thoughts and wondering if you’ll be able to manage your children’s education? I think every home-school mother has had these thoughts. I did and I am a certified teacher. When I was trying to get ready for a lesson and realized it was something new to me, I got a little panicky, but then got excited that I was learning something new. Thinking of the journey as an adventure helped me. From then on, I saw schooling my children as an opportunity to learn new things with my kids. I did get a little nervous about science and math for high school, but I selected curriculum that was self-led for the student so mostly I just graded schoolwork for science. Sometimes I did have to study the textbook to get us over a bump; though it was trying, I felt ready for the next kid who would be taking the same course in 2 years. For math, I purchased video curriculum where the student watched another teacher teaching. I listened and learned a lot that I had forgotten and we did problems together. I also discovered that teaching something helped me learn it better than I did as a student in high school so I felt much better prepared for my up and coming students. It was and is truly an adventure, a privilege and a learning adventure to home-school.
